Selling Is For Suckers? Think Again
So who's the sucker now? You obviously were curious about this week's topic that you clicked on the link and well you ended up on this page, SOLD! Let me be up front with you, as much as we hate to admit it we are all sales people of some type. That's right, WE ARE ALL SALESPEOPLE!
This week I want to expand your mind and help you understand what sales really is. Today's job economy is very stiff but companies are always hiring salespeople no matter what type of economy. The problem is no one wants to do sales because maybe they had a bad previous experience or just intimidated by its requirements. Regardless of the excuse, I want to make this very clear to you, we sell everyday and we don't even realize it.
You see selling doesn't necessarily mean that you are providing a product or service to a consumer and the person earns a commission. Selling is helping a person make a decision on an idea or experience. The consumer believes your advice and well the person giving the advice receives an incentive in return. You see I really can't stand hearing people saying I hate sales or salespeople, and the problem is most people were not trained properly or flat out quit before they even started. I'll admit it, sales isn't an easy career but the benefits and pay offs are great if you are well prepared.
I want to stress that when you recommend a great movie, restaurant, etc. you are selling an idea to someone else. That my friend is selling 101 we just don't admit to it because there is no commission or monetary value attachment. This is where most people are misunderstood what sales really is and have the whole principle completely wrong.
So you are probably wondering then what is sales Bobby? Well my friend it's this simple, sales is building a relationship with a person that believes in you trusts your judgement when it comes to making a decision based on your recommendation. You see in any type of business, we are constantly interacting with people on a daily basis and we tend to forget that we are in the people business. Therefore, when we build relationships with the people we interact with we become comfortable and trustworthy of them that we can utilize them as a resource in the future. At the end of the day, people buy YOU not your product or service, YOU! In a previous topic I highlighted how valuable relationships mattered and how we need to appreciate them more be sure to check it out.
I want to encourage you to start noticing the encounters you have in the future and just listen, I can guarantee to you that you will realize how real sales is part of everyday life. The greatest and toughest sale of your life was or will be the day that you ask your significant other to be your husband or wife. Remember, you are justifying why you are the right person for that someone and why they need you in their life. It sounds cheesy but it's the hidden truth. Also, if you have little ones pay close attention to them, they are the best examples of salespeople today and they might even teach you a trick or two.
Have an awesome weekend and God bless. Cheers!
