Passion... What Does It Mean and What Is Yours?

With the Easter holiday being this week and all, I thought this would be a great topic to discuss. Passion, what does it mean to you and what is yours?

Before we dive into the topic let me just be upfront, I will not discuss anything whether you're a believer or non-believer. The point I want to simply make across today is to help you understand what passion is and how you can apply it to your own life.

According to Webster's Dictionary, passion means intense emotion: anger; rage; ardent love; zeal; enthusiasm. That's quite a bit of meanings and yet diverse. To me it means love or the expression of love. It may mean something else to someone else but bottom line is that we have a general understanding of what passion is.

In today's culture, there are many people who are lost and consumed by the media and other outlets that feed into their minds. No offense if you're a reality show junkie, but just about everything on television these days is just straight up junk. Some of us wonder why the heck people these days are the way they are because they try to portray themselves as celebrities and such. First off, let me inform you that just about every successful person you see in the public eye busted their ass off to get where they are at. They did not sit on their ass on the couch and just decide from one day to the next that they were going to be successful.

You need to start thinking beyond the person you see on camera and actually get to know who they really are. What was their background or upbringing like, what inspired them, etc. Today's youth is so misunderstood about what success really is and they think that success is a handout that is given out after they graduate. Wrong! It just not only takes hard work but you have to go through some pain as well. It sounds so cliche but like the saying goes, "If it was easy, than everyone would do it!"

I'm a huge music fan and I really admire the work ethic of musicians. They work their asses off and as we can see the pay off is worth it. Today's young generation is very influenced by the Lil Waynes, Drakes, Lady Gagas, etc. Little do they know what their struggle was all about and the price it took to achieve success. I highly recommend you to YouTube some of your favorite artists and see what you find out about them. I brought musicians up because this is a perfect example of someone that is passionate about what they do. All the hours in the studio, all the gigs, practices, etc. it all took time to get to their status in the industry. Musicians are artists, and artists express their craft through what they are skilled at whether it be painting, writing, acting, etc. What is your skill or trait that you need to work on so you can develop your craft?

So what I want to encourage you is that whatever you decide to pursue in life make sure you have a burning desire for whatever it is. It may be a skill that you enjoy but still need to develop more, keep going because practice will get you closer than the day before. Remember, that the meaning of success is not about net worth or how much money you make. It's about waking up everyday and loving what you do day in and day out.

I hope you found this week's topic very helpful and that you continue to develop who you really are. Have a safe Happy Easter weekend and God bless. Cheers!
